The word “algebra” comes from the Arabic language. It is derived from the Arabic word “al-jabr”, which means “reunion of broken parts” or “completion”. The term was introduced by the Persian mathematician al-Khwarizmi in his 9th-century book, “Al-Kitab al-Mukhtasar fi Hisab al-Jabr wal-Muqabala” (The Compendious Book on Calculation by Completion and Balancing). This work laid the foundations for algebra as a branch of mathematics.
