Gandhi Jayanti is observed on October 2 every year in India. This day marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of India’s freedom struggle and the champion of non-violence (ahimsa) and truth (satya).
Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated as a national holiday, with various events and tributes paid to his legacy. The day is observed with prayer meetings, remembrance ceremonies, and special programs across the country, particularly at Raj Ghat in New Delhi, where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. The United Nations also observes this day as the International Day of Non-Violence in honor of his principles.
