Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is considered the “Father of the Nation” in Bangladesh. He played a pivotal role in the country’s struggle for independence from Pakistan and became its first President (1971) and later Prime Minister (1972-1975). His leadership in the Awami League, the Six-Point Movement (1966), and the Bangladesh Liberation War (1971) made him the key figure in the creation of Bangladesh. He was assassinated on August 15, 1975, along with most of his family in a military coup.
