X-rays were discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen in 1895. He accidentally found them while experimenting with cathode rays, and he named the mysterious rays “X-rays” due to their unknown nature. For his discovery, Roentgen was awarded the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901.
