The imaginary line that divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres is called the Equator. It is a circle of latitude located at 0 degrees and runs horizontally around the widest part of the Earth. The Equator is equidistant from the North Pole and the South Pole, making it the midpoint of the Earth’s surface in terms of latitude. It passes through several countries in South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia, including Ecuador, Brazil, Gabon, and Indonesia. The regions near the Equator experience a tropical climate with high temperatures and abundant rainfall throughout the year. The Equator also plays a key role in navigation, geography, and climate classification. Day and night durations are nearly equal all year round along the Equator due to its central position.

There are seven continents on Earth, each being a large continuous landmass with distinct geographical, cultural, and ecological characteristics. These seven continents are: Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia. Asia is the largest and most populous continent, while Australia is the smallest. Africa is known for its vast deserts, wildlife, and being the origin of human civilization. Europe and Asia are technically part of the same landmass called Eurasia, but they are treated as separate continents due to historical and cultural reasons. North and South America are divided by the Isthmus of Panama, and Antarctica remains largely uninhabited due to its extreme climate. The seven-continent model is the most commonly accepted worldwide, especially in schools and international geography.

The largest desert in the world is the Antarctic Desert, which covers an area of about 14 million square kilometers (5.4 million square miles). Although many people think of deserts as hot and sandy, a desert is technically defined by its low precipitation. Antarctica is extremely dry, receiving less than 20 mm of rainfall annually in some parts, which qualifies it as a polar desert. It is also the coldest place on Earth, with temperatures dropping below −80°C in winter. Despite being covered in ice, the air in Antarctica is very dry, and snowfall is rare. The second-largest desert is the Arctic Desert, followed by the Sahara Desert, which is the largest hot desert in the world. The Antarctic Desert plays a crucial role in Earth’s climate and stores nearly 70% of the world’s freshwater in the form of ice.

Mount Everest is also known as Sagarmatha in Nepali and Chomolungma in Tibetan. It attracts climbers from all over the world, including highly experienced mountaineers and well-supported expeditions. Despite its popularity, climbing Everest remains extremely dangerous due to avalanches, altitude sickness, harsh weather, and the “death zone” near the summit. It was first successfully climbed in 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa of Nepal. Everest symbolizes natural majesty and human determination.

Organic farming reduces the need for fossil fuels in agriculture mainly in the following ways:

    1. No Synthetic Fertilizers or Pesticides:

Conventional fertilizers and pesticides are produced using fossil fuels (especially natural gas). Organic farming relies on compost, manure, and natural pest control, avoiding these fuel-intensive inputs.

    2. Less Mechanization in Some Practices:

Organic farming often uses crop rotation, cover crops, and manual or low-tech weed control methods, which can reduce the dependence on fuel-powered machinery.

    3. Improved Soil Health:

Healthier soil from organic practices retains nutrients and water better, reducing the need for intensive irrigation and repeated plowing, both of which consume fossil fuels.

    4. Local and Small-Scale Focus:

Organic farms often supply local markets, reducing the fuel needed for long-distance transportation of goods.

So, by reducing synthetic inputs, using sustainable methods, and promoting local distribution, organic farming significantly lowers fossil fuel use compared to con

    ventional farming.
